VIP Crowd Employee Spotlight: Pat Murray
How did you end up working in your field and at VIP Crowd?
I was studying Computer Engineering at UW-Madison, and one random week in the summer I spent every day researching the internals of the Firefox browser. From that moment on I decided I wanted to put all my focus on web development. I began using Ionic to build iOS and Android apps because it utilized web tech (and their office is in Madison). After I graduated, I got a LinkedIn message from Mark about how he was looking for an Ionic dev for a new project he was starting. I usually ignored my LinkedIn messages (as it was always a bunch of recruiters), but Mark started the message saying “Sorry for spamming you out of the blue,” so I agreed to meet up and the rest is history.
What is your favorite part about working at VIP Crowd?
I really like feeling that I am part of a project and not just another number. Due to this I have been driven to work at startups. This is actually the third I have been a part of. I also enjoy how working remotely enforces this concept of flexible working styles so long as you get your work done. Both of these concepts help for a very productive and healthy work environment. I also am a bit of a nerd and just really like to code.
Tell us about your role at VIP Crowd.
To put it simply, I do a lot of our front end development. I also have a specialty in Cordova and Ionic which is essential to building out our iOS and Android apps.
What is your favorite thing to do outside of work?
Amongst broader things like traveling and the weekly festivities of Chicago, I really like to play guitar. It tends to be my most frequent hobby.
What is one of the coolest things you’ve ever done/experienced?
Probably the coolest thing I have ever experienced was Oktoberfest in Germany. I met people from literally all over the world and drank lots of German beer. Oh, you can add beer to to one of my favorite things to do outside of work.
